Double celebrations for Jericho Foundation
Date published: 07 August 2008
The Jericho Foundation, a charity which helps people to get their lives on track using Construction Skills Training and personal development, recently celebrated the graduation of the latest group from its ReBuild Project. The Meadway based project coupled the graduation with the celebration of helping a total of 50 clients within the project.
The graduation took the form of a special ceremony, attended by family and friends of the graduates, as well as the project workers. Steph Rush, who manages the council’s Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund, presented the graduates with certificates and also a high-visibility vest and gloves, as part of their preparation for the workplace.
David Byrom, one of the graduates, said: “It has been great to come here. The staff are helpful without being condescending and really want to see us do well.”
The graduates will move on to ReBuild+, a work-based training programme, where they will be part of Jericho Construction teams, working in real-world projects, and developing their skills and work ethics.
Project Manager, Helen Munro, commenting on the 50-client milestone, said: “We are proud of all our beneficiaries, and the results are a testimony to their resolve, hard work and commitment to turn their lives round. We hope to secure further funding to allow us to continue reaching out to those who want to change their lives.“
Jericho Construction has now completed 20 projects since the start of the year, and is growing all the time. Project Director Iain Wight commented: “We are looking to build on the partnership with Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, who have been very supportive of us, and to secure longer contracts in the public sector, to allow Jericho Construction to become sustainable, and to provide qualifications and training to many more people, of all ages and gender.”
