Reason: to repair damage after a landslip

Expected start and finish: midnight, Monday 7 January 2019 - midnight, Tuesday 30 April 2019 as required when weather is permitting.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of 

  • Ashworth Road from a point 170 metres east of Black Dad Lane.

Alternative route: the alternative route will be clearly signed when the closure is in place.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to allow the connection of a new waste water system in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 07.30am, Monday 4 February 2019 - 6pm, Friday 1 March 2019

Restriction and location: temporary closure of 

  • Smith Street, from a point 50 meters west of its junction with Molesworth Street  for a distance of  20 meters  in a westerly direction.

Alternative route: the alternative route for traffic will be signed on site.

Area: Middleton
Reason: to allow access to a housing development site. 

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 16 July 2018 - 6pm, Wednesday 15 January 2020.
Restriction and location: temporary cycle lane closure:

  • On the east side of Hollin Lane from a point 125 metres north of its junction with Hazelhurst Drive for a distance of 56 metres in a northerly direction.
  • From a point 245 metres north of its junction with Hazelhurst Drive for a distance of 52 metres in a northerly direction.

Alternative route: cyclists will still be able to travel down these road using the main areas of the road, not the cycle lanes.

Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: work is expected to take place:

  • 7pm, Sunday 27 January 2019 - 6am, Monday 28 January 2019
  • 7pm, Sunday 3 February 2019 - 6am, Monday 4 February 2019
  • 7pm, Sunday 10 February 2019 - 6am, Monday 11 February 2019

Restriction and location: temporary closure of 

  • Bradshaw Street for its entire length.

Alternative route: there is no alternative route for vehicles. Access will be provided to businesses if required and safe to do so. Pedestrian access won't be affected.

Reason: to demolish and rebuild a chamber in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 6pm, Friday 15 February 2019 - 6pm, Sunday 24 February 2019.

Restriction and location: temporary no waiting 

  • along both sides of Argyle Street from a point 24 metres west of its junction with Melton Street to a point 15 metres west of its junction with Pilsworth Road.

Alternative route: the order will be in use in the locations and at the times required as indicated by cones placed on the highway.

Reason: emergency works to replace a frame and cover in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7am-6pm, Sunday 24 February 2019.

Restriction and location: temporary:

  • One-way working in a northerly direction along Pilsworth Road, from its junction with Margaret Street to its junction with Bridge Street in so far as vehicles won't be able to travel along Pilsworth Road in a southerly direction from its junction with Bridge Street to its junction with Margaret Street.
  • No right turn from Pilsworth Road onto Bridge Street.
  • No left or right turn from Bridge Street onto Pilsworth Road.

Alternative route: the alternative route will be signed on street when the closure is in place.

Reason: to facilitate works to a new housing development.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Monday 11 March 2019 - 6pm, Monday 4 November 2019.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of 

  • Claybank Street from a point 32 metres east of its junction with Cedar Avenue for a distance of 105 metres in an easterly direction. 

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is Cedar Avenue and Furness Avenue.

Reason: to repair the structure of the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 9.30am - 3.30pm each day from Monday 18 March 2019 - Monday 25 March 2019.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of

  • Moss Hall Road, from its junction with the entrance to Birch Industrial Park to where the road becomes Whittle Lane.
  • Whittle Lane, from where it joins with Moss Hall Road for a distance of 452 metres in a southerly direction.

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along:

  • Moss Hall Road in a south easterly direction is Pilsworth Road, Bridge Street, Dawson Street, Bamford Road, Market Place, LCpl Stephen Shaw MC Way, Church Street, Manchester Street, Manchester Road and Heywood Old Road.
  • Whittle Lane in a north westerly direction is Heywood Old Road, Manchester Road, Manchester Street, Church Street, LCpl Stephen Shaw MC Way, Market Place, Market Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.

  • Moor Street from a point 86 metres south of its junction with Bury Street for a distance of 30 metres in a southerly direction.

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is

  • Bury Street, Rose Hill Street and Regent Street.

Restriction and location: temporary one-way working and temporary no right and left turning:

  • Introduce one-way working in a northerly direction along Pilsworth Road, from its junction with Margaret Street to its junction with Bridge Street in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Pilsworth Road in a southerly direction from its junction with Bridge Street to its junction with Margaret Street.
  • Prohibit vehicles from undertaking a right turn manoeuvre from Pilsworth Road onto Bridge Street,
  • Prohibit vehicles from undertaking a right turn manoeuvre from Bridge Street onto Pilsworth Road,
  • Prohibit vehicles from undertaking a left turn manoeuvre from Bridge Street onto Pilsworth Road.

Alternative route: the following alternative routes can be used:

  • The alternative route for vehicles travelling along Pilsworth Road in a northerly direction and wishing to turn right onto Bridge Street is via Bridge Street, Peel Street, Cherwell Avenue, Bank Top Street, West Starkey Street, Bamford Road and Market Street.
  • The alternative route for vehicles travelling along Bury Street in a easterly direction and wishing to turn right onto Pilsworth Road is via Peel Street, Cherwell Avenue, Bank Top Street, West Starkey Street, Bamford Road, Market Street, Bridge Street, Bury Street, Bury New Road, Heap Brow and Moss Hall Road or alternatively via Bridge Street, Dawson Street, Bamford Road, Market Street, Bridge Street, Bury Street, Bury New Road, Heap Brow and Moss Hall Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles travelling along Bridge Street in a westerly direction and wishing to turn left onto Pilsworth Road is via Bridge Street, Bury Street, Bury New Road, Heap Brow and Moss Hall Road.

  • Willow Street – from its junction with Queens Park Road for a distance of 5 metres in a easterly direction.

Alternative route: the following alternative routes can be used:

  • The alternative route for vehicles using Queens Park Road is York Street, Market Place, Bamford Road and Starkey Street.
  • The alternative route for vehicles using Willow Street is John Street, Hardman Street, Queens Park Road, York Street, Market Place, Bamford Road and Starkey Street.

Expected start and finish: 9.30am, Tuesday 28 May 2019 - 6pm, Saturday 1 June 2019.

Restriction and location: temporary one-way working and temporary no right and left turning:

  • Introduce one-way working in a southerly direction along Middleton Road, from its junction with Sycamore Avenue for a distance of 79 metres in a southerly direction in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Middleton Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Coronation Avenue/Middleton Road Roundabout to its junction with Sycamore Avenue,
  • Introduce one-way working in an easterly direction along Glamis Avenue from its northerly junction with Middleton Road for a distance of 12 metres in so far as vehicles will not be permitted to travel along Glamis Avenue in a westerly direction from a point 12 metres east of its junction with Middleton Road to its junction with Middleton Road,
  • Prohibit vehicles from undertaking a left turn manoeuvre from Coronation Avenue/Middleton Road Roundabout onto Middleton Road in a northerly direction,
  • Prohibit vehicles from undertaking a right turn manoeuvre from Glamis Avenue (its northerly junction with Middleton Road) onto Middleton Road.

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles travelling along Middleton Road in a northerly direction and wishing to continue over the Coronation Avenue/Middleton Road Roundabout onto Middleton Road is via Coronation Avenue and Manchester Road.

Work being undertaken: Virgin Media are currently installing new Fibre Broadband in the Pennines area.

Who to contact: for any issues about this work, please use the following methods to gain the quickest and safest possible resolution.

  1. Contractors on site - contact a site supervisor. They are best placed to resolve many issues there and then. In most instances, this will be the quickest and safest way to resolve any issue.
  2. Virgin Media Helpdesk - if unresolved, or there are no contractors in the area, or if the site has been left in an unsafe manner and requires urgent attention, please ring the Virgin Media helpdesk on 0333 000 5925.
    The helpdesk hours are: Monday-Friday, 8am-7.30pm, Saturday, 8am-12noon. The helpdesk will alert the contractor and Virgin Media's compliance engineers.

  3. Rochdale Borough Council Highways - we need to be aware of issues being raised with Virgin Media. Please email highways@rochdale.gov.uk or phone on 0300 303 8879, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. At all other times, please phone our Contact Centre on 0300 303 8875 for emergency work on the highway.

Reason: for the protection of the public while work is undertaken on the new housing development.

Expected start and finish: 8am-5pm, each day from Monday 26 November 2018 - Monday 25 November 2019.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of

  • unnamed footpath from Bramhall Close to Elizabethan Way, from Elizabethan Way for a distance of 46 metres in a north westerly direction.

Alternative route: the alternative route for pedestrians and cyclists will be clearly signed when the closure is in place.

Reason: to install apparatus associated with traffic signal upgrade. 

Expected start and finish: 11pm-6am, each day from Monday 18 February 2019 - Saturday 23 February 2019.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of

  • Church Street from its junction with Canal Street to its junction with Todmorden Road. 
  • Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is via Church Street, Featherstall Road, New Road, Smithy Bridge Road, Lake Bank, Hollingworth Road and Canal Street.

Reason: to connect a new gas supply from the existing gas main located in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 9.30am-3.30pm every day, Monday 11 March 2019 - Wednesday 13 March 2019.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of

  • Ogden Lane from its junction with Lane Bottom for a distance of 80 metres in a north westerly direction, outside property number 3.

Alternative route: there will be no alternative route for vehicles during the times the closure is in operation.

Reason: to replace the level crossing running rails across the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 12.20am-8.20am, Sunday 17 March 2019.

Restriction and location: temporary closure of

  • Smithy Bridge Road from a point 50 metres north-west of the level crossing to a point 50 metres south-east of the level crossing.

Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles is

  • Smithy Bridge Road, Milnrow Road (Littleborough), Wildhouse Lane, Kiln Lane, Bridge Street, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road (Rochdale), Albert Royds Street and Halifax Road.
