Whitworth Men’s Shed are looking for donations of items in any condition for their recent ‘Toolcycle’ project
Have you got any old tools or equipment that you no longer use and would be handy to someone else?
Whitworth Men’s Shed are looking for donations of items in any condition for their recent ‘Toolcycle’ project.
Formed on 21 September 2018, Whitworth Men’s Shed is a community group for men that aims to reduce social isolation and tackle loneliness within the community.
The need for the group was highlighted in 2016 after Age UK identified Whitworth as a ‘very high risk’ loneliness and isolation hot spot for ages 65 and over. The report suggested over 135 households were at risk, mainly older people.
The toolcycle project has been created by Whitworth Men’s Shed to aid their activities such as the ‘Garden Shed’ - a gardening group who plan to improve the appearance of the Whitworth area – and the ‘Engine Shed’ model railway group.
Any donations given will either be used by members to take part in activities, shared with the UK Men’s Shed Association to support other Men’s Sheds, or will be sold to raise funds for future Whitworth Men’s Shed activities.
Tools, both old and new, can be dropped off at 6 Milner Street, Whitworth on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Alternatively, you can contact 07876 303 134 or email info@whitworthmenssheds.org.uk to arrange collection.
Middleton also has a Men’s Shed group, located in the Lighthouse Project at Middleton Shopping Centre.
The group has a 'make it mend it' feel, which covers a range of things including bicycle repair/recycling, electronics, computing, metal and woodcraft, sign-writing, DIY, and more.
If you are interested in joining Middleton Men’s Shed, contact Carl on 0161 643 1163 or email carl@lighthouseproject.org.uk
Whitworth and Middleton Men’s Sheds are part of the UK Men’s Sheds Association, who create community spaces for men to connect and converse. There are currently 480 operating Men’s Sheds in the UK.
