‘Snow much fun’ for St James’ Primary School

Date published: 01 February 2019

Lucky pupils at St James’ CofE Primary in Wardle had a learning experience like no other on Wednesday (30 January), as they took to the great outdoors and fresh snowfall for that day’s education.

After an assembly setting out a few ground rules and a special STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) challenge to build a bridge out of snow able to hold the weight of a small child, the children embarked on an hour of hilarity in the snow, making Wednesday a day to remember.

Headteacher Rob Andrew said: “To challenge the idea that schools should stop children enjoying the snow, we decided to stay open. The children were wonderful and had an absolute ball. They conducted the snowball fights with consideration and respect for those around them, except for the teachers!

“It was lovely to see the children self-regulate their decision making and allow safety to be a consideration, but not a limitation.”
