Rochdale Thai Boxing Club clear local streets of snow

Date published: 01 February 2019

Members of Rochdale Thai Boxing Club donned their woolly hats on Wednesday evening (30 January) to clear some of the snow on the coldest night of the year so far.

Anticipating that the snow would melt and freeze into ice, causing a hazard, dedicated members hit the local streets to clear the snow and sprinkle salt to prevent any accidents.

The following areas were all cleared by the helpful volunteers:

  • Entwisle Road directly outside the gym and up to the corner of Copenhagen Street
  • Entwisle Road in front of the leisure centre
  • Entwisle Road on the pavement opposite St Andrew's church.
  • St Andrews church, clearing a path from the main road down to main entrance, gritting the road and carpark
  • Al Quba Mosque entrance and car park
  • Corbett Street (full street gritted) including area around Al Amin Mosque
  • Path from Al Amin Mosque up to the top of South Street
  • Bulwer Street from top of mosque to the entrance into Corbett Street
  • Top of Brunswick Street
  • Top of Buckingham Street
  • Top and bottom of Trafalgar Street
  • Outside South Street Nursery
  • Outside of South Street Centre
  • Side street leading into Wardleworth Community Centre
  • Outside Rochdale Women's Centre
  • Entrance to Rochdale Judo Club and the attached defib machine area
  • Entrance to Jalalia Mosque car park
  • Jack McCann Court entrance and car park area
  • Pennine View entrance and car park

A spokesperson for the club said: “Thank you to the volunteers who turned up and big thank you for Bridging Communities for bringing down some warm food for our volunteers.

“Our club is more than just a martial arts club: it's a development centre where our students learn how to become valued members of society. Great work from the team.”
