Thieves steal cash and clothing from family home

Date published: 29 January 2019

Thieves have stolen hundreds of pounds of cash and various items of clothing and shoes from a family home on Kensington Street, Rochdale.

On Tuesday 15 January, thieves broke into the home through the back door, before the resident Mr Khan returned home from work at 7.15pm.

Mr Khan said: “I was returning from work when I noticed that the curtains for the front windows were shut. I then tried to open the front door and was unable to do so as they had put a small sofa in the way.

“I went around the back and noticed they had kicked in the back door. I think I may have actually disturbed them as they took some items but left a lot behind.

“At the time I called the police they advised to inspect the property to see if the people were still in there. As they had left, and there were no shiny surfaces at home, fingerprints would have been difficult to obtain so they didn't come out at the time.

“The police came out few days later to advise they can’t do much. I do have some CCTV footage which I recorded on my phone from a neighbour’s house. I made the police aware, but they haven't even asked for a copy.”

Items missing include a grey and black Nike gym bag, several pairs of Nike Air Max and Nike Air Presto trainers in sizes 7 and 7.5 and various items of Nike clothing in men’s size medium.

Other items included two black and white Kenzo tracksuits in children’s ages 10 and age 3 and an orange Liverpool football jersey in men’s size medium.

£50 in change was stolen from money jars in the resident’s wardrobe, as well as £250 to £300 in notes.

Mr Khan added: “My wife had been saving up to take the kids abroad this year.”

A spokesperson for GMP said: “We were called to a report of burglary at a property on Kensington Street, Rochdale at 7.16pm on 15 January.

“Two unknown offenders forced entry into the property. A back door was damaged.

“An untidy search was carried out and a quantity of clothing, shoes and cash were taken.

“No arrests have been made and enquires are ongoing."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 1826 of 15/01/2019, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
