Clampdown on driving offences in Milkstone and Deeplish

Date published: 14 January 2019

Rochdale’s roads have been made that bit safer after a number of vehicles were seized over the weekend in Milkstone and Deeplish.

Five cars and a van were seized on Saturday (12 January) by local police officers for a variety of offences such as no insurance, no tax, no driving licence, drug driving and using vehicles in crime.

Driving without insurance is an offence accompanied by a £300 fine and six penalty points, whilst any motorist caught driving without tax could be fined up to £1,000.

Driving without a full licence is an offence punishable by a fine of up to £1,000 and three to six penalty points.

Another vehicle was stopped on Ashfield Road during the early hours of Sunday morning (13 January), with a quantity of drugs and cash confiscated. The car was lifted, and both driver and passenger arrested.

Another car was also detained by police after it collided with a fence later that day with the occupants fleeing the scene.

Speaking about the incidents, a spokesman for GMP added: “A number of arrests were also made.”
