Former Manchester City youth player banned from driving for 22 months

A former Manchester City youth player has been banned from driving for 22 months after he admitted a drink driving offence.

Courtney Meppen-Walter (DOB: 02/08/1994), of Kirkstall Avenue, Heywood, appeared before magistrates on Wednesday (2 January) after he was found to be more than twice the legal limit in December 2018.

Meppen-Walter, who captained the England under-18 squad, was previously jailed for 16 months in 2013 for causing death by careless driving.

Brother and sister Kulwant Singh and Ravel Kaur, both of Salford, were killed in 2012 after the Mercedes Meppen-Walter was driving hit their car at nearly double the speed limit.

The Chorley FC player was also ordered to complete a community order of 12 months, plus 80 hours of unpaid work and 15 days of rehabilitation.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and £85 in costs.
