A large amount of rubble and asbestos corrugated panels was dumped in Castleton on Sunday (30 December).

Patterdale Close, which provides access to a number of bungalows, was covered in broken glass and what appears to be building waste.

Fortunately, the waste was removed a short while later, and Rochdale Borough Council’s out-of-hours removal of the waste was praised by ward councillor Billy Sheerin, who reported it after a constituent informed him of the mess.

Councillor Sheerin said: “I called the out-of-hours team to try to get the road closed because of the asbestos and glass deposits.

“When I went back to Patterdale Close, to my delight, the mess had been cleaned up and the road made passable. I am really pleased with the reaction of our out-of-hours service.

“I think there is a bit more work to do, but the immediate threat has gone.”

This rubbish was dumped in Castleton on New Year's Eve.
