Festive goodwill spread to homeless by generous residents

Date published: 03 January 2019

Generous residents took to Rochdale’s streets on Christmas Eve (24 December), determined to spread some festive cheer to those less fortunate.

Sanya Karim, 28, her brother, Shezad Chowdhury, 15, and friend Humerah Ramzan, drove around Rochdale and handed out donations to those on the streets, gathered through social media and Worldwide Cash and Carry.

The trio also made hot cups of tea and warm Christmas dinner consisting of roast chicken wings, vegetables, mashed potatoes, and sage and onion stuffing for the grateful recipients.

Sanya said: “They were very grateful but didn't want to take pictures.

“We had donations of hats, gloves, socks, coats, blankets and dog food from people online, plus containers and cups from Worldwide Cash and Carry. I want to thank these people.

“All this was in honour of our dad, who passed away in September 2018.”
