Ramblers try to combat loneliness

Date published: 26 December 2018

The festive season can be a particularly difficult time for many who are on their own, which is why the Ramblers Festival of Winter Walks, which takes place from 21 December to 6 January, is focused on helping people to connect with each other.

Ramblers groups across the UK are offering hundreds of free festive walks to give everyone the chance to enjoy the wonderful winter landscape in good company, and to make new friends at a time of year when many people can feel lonely or isolated.

A sociable walk with a welcoming group is an easy way to get out and about and meet people.

There are fun winter-themed walks that the little ones will love; leisurely strolls under 5 miles for people new to walking; and longer walks for those that want more of a challenge.

For those of you who may be short on time or want a gentler stroll, why not join a health walk.

The Festival of Winter Walks has run annually for roughly 30 years, taking place over Christmas and New Year, encouraging people to go walking at a time of year when many people stay inside and over indulge.
