Norden Co-op donates to local food bank

Date published: 22 December 2018

The Co-op in Norden kindly donated a large bag of food for the local food bank on Friday (21 December), to help families who are struggling at this special time of the year.

Sharon Leighton, Co-op store manager said: "Being part of the local community is important to our staff and the Co-op, and our kind donations show support for this great cause."

Jo Hallett from the community café commented: "As well as being the local drop off point, I myself will be donating all my left over stock, before we finish for Christmas."

Paul Ellison, NEEVA (Norden Environmental & Economic Village Association), chairman added: "Many people are quite fortunate at this festive period, but no matter how big or small, all donations are welcome for this meaningful cause."

Anyone who would like to donate food for this special cause, can donate at the local collection point at The Old Library Community Cafe in the village on Edenfield Road.

The Norden Co-op gives away any leftover stock in the evenings through the Co-operative Food Share programme, designed to reduce food waste.

Any local foodbank can apply to receive the food, putting it to good use feeding people in the community.

Any food bank group wishing to apply for this, please find the application form on the Co-op website:
