GMP delivers Christmas hampers to those in need

Greater Manchester Police have been out delivering Christmas hampers to elderly and vulnerable people

Officers and staff from Greater Manchester Police have been out delivering Christmas hampers to elderly and vulnerable people across Greater Manchester.

GMP, with the help of Yorkshire Bank, has been collecting supplies since the start of December for the hampers which include food, drinks and other essentials to help those who may be spending the festive period alone. They were put together with the help of police cadets and pupils from local primary school, St Edmunds.

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins went out with staff and officers, helping to deliver over 400 special hampers to the local community.

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “Christmas is a time for being with family and friends, but sadly for many it can be a lonely and sometimes desperate time. The colder weather conditions can also make it difficult for some people in our local communities to get out and about.

“These parcels, as well as local officers taking the time to check on the welfare of the recipients, will hopefully show them that they are not alone and help spread some festive joy this Christmas. It was great to be able to give them these special parcels as well as spend time with some wonderful people.

“Throughout the year GMP works hard to support and protect the most vulnerable people in our communities. I would like to thank those who donated.”
