Police traffic operation pulls 28 lawbreakers

Following requests from members of the public, officers from the Rochdale Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a joint traffic operation on Wednesday (19 December).

The operation was conducted in association with Rochdale Council, Driver Vehicle Standards Authority and Taxi Licencing.

One taxi was suspended from working due to not conforming to licencing regulations.

Seven vehicles were seized for having no insurance, accompanied by a £300 fine and six points. One summons was also issued for no vehicle insurance.

Two vehicles displayed defective number plates which were unreadable or altered, resulting in a £100 fine.

Seven people were caught not wearing a seatbelt, an offence which carries a £100 fine, whilst seven drivers were caught using mobile phones, receiving a £200 fine and six points.

Three vehicles were prohibited from by DVSA driving due to serious defects.

30 people were checked by the Department of Work and Pensions benefit fraud team, and 12 drivers were breathalysed, providing negative samples.
