Deeplish Community Centre health awareness day

Date published: 18 December 2018

A health awareness open day was held at Deeplish Community Centre on Monday (17 December), to raise awareness about healthy lifestyles and provide professional advice about issues affecting people’s wellbeing.

There were health checks for participants plus lots of stalls and information, including Living Well, Healthwatch, Rochdale Mind, Link4Life, Early Break, Thinking Ahead, Macmillan Cancer Support group and community centre staff and volunteers.

Mayor Mohammed Zaman also took part in a health check and asked all participants to take greater care of their own health and wellbeing.

He also launched a copy of the “Living with cancer and beyond” booklet produced by Macmillan Cancer Support group, which was translated by Deeplish Community Centre.

Mayor Zaman said: “In this community hub, we have a diverse range of community facilities and activities for everyone to learn, play and benefit from this community resource. We appreciate centres like this are working very hard with reduced budgets to serve the needs of their local communities.”

He also thanked all the organisations who participated and people who organised this event.

Sohail Ahmad JP, operations manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said: “We are committed to promoting health and wellbeing for local communities and we regularly offer basic health checks and advice.

“It is good to see people attending and caring about their health and wellbeing.”
