A real star as Teresa retires after forty years caring for others

Date published: 22 December 2018

A long-serving Rochdale Borough Council employee has retired after over 40 years’ work supporting thousands of the borough’s most vulnerable residents.

Teresa Moore’s career began in 1976 when she joined the council as a carer in the long-term homecare service.

After 30 years working in homecare, Teresa has spent the last ten years in the council’s groundbreaking STARS service.

STARS ensures hundreds of elderly people retain their independence, following a stay in hospital, by providing hands on care in an environment of their choice.

To celebrate her loyal service a special party was held, when colleagues past and present came together to wish her a happy retirement.

Teresa said: “I have really enjoyed all of my caring roles. I love the fact that through my work I have supported people to remain at home and live as independently as possible.

“I would like to thank all my colleagues for all their support and kindness over the years, having great colleagues and managers has made the role even more enjoyable. I have loved every minute of my job.”

Councillor Billy Sheerin, assistant cabinet member for adult care, said: “Teresa has been a dedicated, committed and loyal council employee who has done such a fantastic job over four decades of superb service.

"She has seen many changes but has always focussed on achieving the best possible outcomes for her service users. It was a lovely celebration of her outstanding work and I was proud to attend.

"Happy retirement to a very special person.”
