Rochdale Islamic Academy’s success at Awards Evening

Date published: 18 December 2018

A special awards evening for this year’s Rochdale Islamic Academy (RIA) pupils who achieved excellent GCSE results was held at the school on Thursday 13 December.

The fantastic achievements of the students were celebrated by proud parents, pupils and teachers alike.

Mayor of Rochdale Mohammed Zaman presented shields and medals to all pupils, whilst Dr Haneef, Headteacher at RIA, welcomed everyone to the awards evening. He also presented a shield to the Mayor on behalf of the school for his participation and support towards the school.

Dr Haneef said: “We are proud to see the success of our pupils in recent GCSE results.

“One fifth of our girls achieved grade 8 or above in maths, whilst one third of our girls achieved grade 8 or above in English, and over half of the pupils achieved grade 8’s or above in science.”

Overall, the school enjoyed an 89% success rate, with 58% passing the E Baccalaureate and 50.7% achieving attainment 8.

The hard work of all teachers and staff was also celebrated with the Mayor presenting an 'Excellence in teaching' commemorative plaque to Tahseen Akhtar for her consistent hard work and enthusiasm.

After the formal prize giving, parents, students, staff and governors came together to enjoy refreshments and catch up with the school community.
