Children donate to Foodbank and learn about homelessness

Children and parents of The Helen O'Grady Drama Academy Rochdale have been donating items for Rochdale Foodbank over the past week.

The Academy wanted to make a difference to the local community and so Principal Gemma Johnson chose the Foodbank.

“I have previously worked in the community and I understand the challenges that families are now facing, we wanted to make sure that we did something to really make a difference and help people in need,”

During the week of the Foodbank collection, children in the Littleborough Primary School classes who have been working with the Drama Academy worked on a play exploring homelessness and the challenges that people can face. This project encouraged the children to appreciate and explore social issues through drama.

“We are really lucky to be able to work with such lovely, enthusiastic children who really embrace community work and our developmental approach to drama.”

On behalf of Rochdale Foodbank, Gemma would like to thank the children, and parents, at the classes in Castleton, Norden and Littleborough for their support.
