Foodbank battles through

Rochdale Foodbank
A sudden and urgent need for some building repairs at the home of Rochdale’s busy Foodbank in the centre of town has left its volunteer workers there with less than half their normal operating space.
However, like the wartime Windmill Theatre, the Foodbank’s motto remains ‘We Never Close’ – except that is for weekends and Bank Holidays.
Clients who receive a voucher from a participating agency and take this to the Foodbank will for a while find there is very limited space in the waiting area but they can still be sure of a warm and friendly welcome.
The doors remain open from 11.00am until 12.45pm every day from Monday to Friday, except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The Food Bank will definitely be open as usual on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
On Saturdays the sister Foodbank at Number 1 Wesley Street, Smallbridge will continue to provide food to those in desperate need every Saturday from 10.30am until 12.00 noon.
Rochdale Foodbank’s founder and leader Iain Wight said: “Our amazing volunteers are continuing to provide this vital service to members of the local community despite very testing working conditions.
“The run-up to Christmas is a time when some families and individuals find themselves in particularly difficult circumstances and we are determined that we will continue to help them.
“We are also hugely grateful to the people of Rochdale who, during a recent three day collection at Tesco’s Store, donated over two thousand kilogrammes of food, which will sustain the Foodbank through this busy time of year.”
