Repairs to Littleborough pavements 'should be completed by Christmas'

Date published: 05 December 2018

Repairs to a number of pavements in Littleborough are expected to be completed by Christmas.

Following extensive work this year by Virgin Media in expanding its network to the town and surrounding areas, a number of concerns regarding the condition of the pavements have been raised throughout 2018.

Andrew Storey, Head of highways at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We’re aware of ongoing issues in Littleborough following Virgin Media works earlier this year and share our residents’ frustration at the length of time it has taken Virgin to rectify these problems.

“Councillors have additionally raised concerns about these delays and we have issued a number of charges to Virgin as a result of this. We have been given an assurance by Virgin that the work will be completed by Christmas.

“If this deadline is not met, in the new year, we will look at invoking any additional powers we may have to ensure that this long overdue work is completed.”

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “Virgin Media is in the process of completing its network expansion in Littleborough. With regards to the condition of roads and pathways on Little Clegg Road and other areas, we are working to complete all repairs as soon as possible.

“We were disappointed to see the comments made by Highways as we have been in regular contact with both them and the council about our planned restoration works.

“We apologise to any residents for any inconvenience caused.”
