Greater Manchester Mayor visits Heywood volunteer groups

Date published: 03 December 2018

The Mayor of Greater Manchester visited three volunteer-led groups in Heywood on Friday (30 November).

Heywood Foodbank’s new premises on Adelaide Street, Recovery Republic on York Street and Little Monkeys were all visited by Mayor Andy Burnham.

Andy was shown around the brand-new Heywood Foodbank facilities by Chris Downham-Clarke, who explained how they reply on donations from the local community and local stores. They have also held a toy collection for families this Christmas.

Next, Andy visited the Recovery Republic Centre and was shown around by Carl Cruise, whose aim is to promote the well-being and health of the local community.

Lastly, Andy met the volunteers who run Little Monkeys, also on Adelaide Street. Doug Foulger showed him around the shop, which raises money to help enrich the physical, psychological and social well-being of disadvantaged children and pregnant women in Heywood and across the borough, in order that children may achieve more of their full potential as adult citizens.

Andy appreciated the hospitality all the volunteers showed him and all the extremely hard work they put in to helping their community.
