Police launch Kirkholt initiative
Date published: 02 August 2008
A fresh drive to address crime and anti-social behaviour on the Kirkholt Estate starts next week.
During the 10-day crackdown, which runs from Monday 4 to Wednesday 13 August, police will carry out regular high-visibility patrols, and a mobile station will be located in hotspots where residents can receive crime prevention advice and have their vehicle registration plates secured.
Police community support officers will also work with officials from Rochdale Borough Housing to tackle areas suffering from anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and fly-tipping.
In addition, police will make joint visits with victim support officers to the homes of people affected by crime, and Homewatch packs will be distributed in areas worst hit by burglary.
Inspector Michelle Hughes of the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “I am confident that by maintaining a high-profile presence on the estate, our officers can have a significant impact on the number of offences committed.
“We are determined that law-abiding residents should not have their quality of life affected by a criminal minority, and we will continue to run initiatives like this in future.”
The mobile police station will be used on the following dates:
- Monday 4 August: The Strand from 8am-4pm
- Thursday 7 August: Perth Road from 1pm-9pm
- Friday 8 August: The Strand from 8am-2pm
- Saturday 9 August: Mannings from 3pm-9pm
- Wednesday 13 August: St Thomas’s Church from 8am-9pm
