New cancer service hosts free event

Date published: 02 December 2018

A new Community Cancer Service for Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) is hosting a free public health and wellbeing event where guests will have the opportunity to find out more about the brand new HMR Community Cancer Service, which is being piloted until the 31 December 2018 in Middleton and Rochdale Central neighbourhoods. The service will then be rolled out to the rest of Rochdale borough.

Healthcare professionals including qualified nurses from the service will be on hand to provide information about the support they offer for people living with and beyond cancer in the Rochdale borough.

The new service provides cancer patients with a holistic needs assessment which identifies individual concerns which will help to sign-post patients to relevant services to help support with self-management in the community and offer support over the telephone, email or face to face.

Jade Hughes, Macmillan Support & Engagement Worker at the HMR Community Cancer Service said: “We can’t wait to welcome the Rochdale community to our very first health and wellbeing event as this gives us a fantastic opportunity to tell people about our service which is designed to help people access personalised care, support and information to enjoy the best possible quality of life.”

The public will also be able to browse stalls and access information from local services including, Healthwatch, Carer’s Hub, Link4 Life, the Breast Cancer Support group, Thinking Ahead and many more.

The HMR Community Cancer Service is a partnership between the Bury and Rochdale Carre Organisation, which is part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, and Macmillan Cancer Support. The pilot was launched in October 2018.

The Community Cancer Service event is on Friday 7 December at Rochdale Town Hall from 11.30am until 2.00pm.

Please contact the service on 01706 517982 for more information.
