Following the arrests for the robbery at Lowerplace Post Office, Lowerplace Post Office is now closed. The post office has a notice stating: 'Branch closed please use Buersil Post Office'.
Staff at Buersil post office say all the information they have been given is that there has been an investigation and Lowerplace Post Office is closed until further notice.
Former Conservative Councillor Ian Duckworth said: "It's an irony of ironies that the post office targeted for closure is open whilst the alternative post office is closed. This demonstrates the value of having post offices within reasonable walking distance of each other. I have met pensioners on Lowerplace who would be in real difficulties if the Buersil Branch had been closed."
Ward Councillor Dale Mulgrew said that no one has informed him of any problems happening at Lower Place Post Office. He added: "Lowerplace Post Office on numerous occasions in the past has indiscriminately closed for the days or periods of times without letting anyone know in advance which is inconsiderate to customers.
"The current temporary closure until further notice which does not reflect well when trying to save other post offices, the inconsistencies with opening and closing, and not letting the people know, shows its unreliability."
