Christmas craft fundraiser for Foodbank

Date published: 27 November 2018

Local Slimming World groups from Middleton are coming together to hold a Christmas Craft fair at the Lighthouse Project.

The craft fair is being supported by local craft businesses from around the Middleton area and all proceeds and monies raised with be donated in support of Middleton Central Foodbank.

Carl Roach manager of the Foodbank said: “This is an ideal time to buy those unique handmade craft gifts for family and friends whilst at the same time supporting a worthy cause. The fair will include a range of different stalls from local businesses as well as refreshments, a raffle and tombola with many prizes having been donated by local shopping centre and town centre businesses.”

Jeannie Logan the local Slimming World rep who is co-ordinating the event said “Christmas is usually a time that families look forward to, but for a significant and growing number this is not the case so we are keen to support the work of the foodbank which is making a difference for those who find this time a real struggle, we want to touch hearts and change lives this Christmas by giving something back.”

Carl Roach manager of the Foodbank said: “We really appreciate all the work that Jeannie and her team put into the event, it creates a real buzz in the Lighthouse and it is encouraging to know that as people buy their Christmas wares, they are supporting both local small businesses as well as the foodbank. I guess this is an alternative and interesting way of fundraising.

“In the new year we are also preparing to open a new type of community food club called the ‘Lighthouse Panty’ which will be a membership project allowing people to access discounted food supplies to help them save on their food shopping and so keep more money in the household.”

The Middleton central foodbank is open on Mondays and Thursdays between 11.00am-1.00pm at the Lighthouse Project and it can be accessed through local referral organisations who issue food vouchers after assessing people’s circumstances and needs.

The Christmas Craft fair at the Lighthouse Project is on Saturday 1 December between 10.00am and 2.00pm.
