Ex-Mayor of Rochdale presented with £3,350 charity cheque

Date published: 23 November 2018

Ex-Mayor of Rochdale and retired councillor for Bamford, Ian Duckworth, received a £3,350 cheque from Wincanton at Rochdale Town Hall.

The Mayors Charity Appeal for 2017 – 2018 was split equally between Springhill Hospice, Rochdale Connections Trust, Rochdale Shopmobility, Cancer Research and Rochdale Heartbeat, as fundraising events were held throughout the year.

Lisa Ogden, Human Resources Assistant at Wincanton, said: “We hosted so many events throughout Ian’s mayoral year to get the money to where it is.

“We held Christmas, Valentine and Easter raffles, hosted ‘It’s a Knockout’ challenge at Falinge Park, had Halloween fancy dress parties, went backpacking with Brownies groups and were the main sponsors of the Mayors Charity Ball, as well as many other things.

“We always try to support local charities and after coming to one of the Mayors Charity meetings last year we knew we wanted to support the appeal.”

Wincanton has done many projects within the community and have raised thousands of pounds for local causes, including the Mayor’s charities.

Wincanton is the largest British logistics firm who provide supply chain consultancy and solutions to some of the world’s biggest brands.

ASDA CDC at Kingsway Business park celebrated its 6th anniversary this year, with Wincanton running the site for the full period.
