Rochdale Foodbank celebrated six years of operation at Rochdale Town Hall on Wednesday 14 November joined by Trussell Trust and dignitaries from the borough including the Mayor
The launch of Rochdale Foodbank at St Mary in the Baum on Wednesday 25 July 2012 had over 50 representatives from churches, organisations and individuals from across the whole Rochdale community.
At the time, Chairman of Rochdale Foodbank Steering Group, Iain Wight, said: “This is such a simple message, the tin of soup or packet of pasta you donate, could be feeding a family down the street next week, who otherwise would have no food to put on the table. We just distribute the food that the community kindly gives.”
A spokesperson for the Foodbank said: “We have now been going for six years and although we hoped that we would see an end to food poverty, sadly this year we are seeing a rise in the number of people who are seeking our help with a lack of food for themselves and their children.
“We are always happy to help the local community wherever we can with food and are extremely grateful for the continuing support of the local people, local organisations and Rochdale Council.
“Thank you to all who participated and who continue to help and support us.”
