NHS staff celebrate after being named Patients’ Choice Award winners

Patients’ Choice Award winners celebrated after winning awards chosen by the public who use the services and live in Salford, Oldham, Bury, Rochdale and North Manchester.

The Patients’ Choice Awards, where nominations and winners were voted for by public members and the general public, were won by the following people:

  • Oldham - John Mushing, Porter, Pharmacy Department

John Mushing, Porter, Pharmacy Department at The Royal Oldham said: “I would like to say thank you to all of my fellow porters and all the other staff I work with. I see this as a team effort. I would also like to thank all the public who voted for me. I always try to go above and beyond in my duties just like everyone else who works in the health service does.” 

  • Bury & Rochdale - Ward 8 Respiratory Unit Fairfield General Hospital

Jessica Dugdale, Ward Manager for Ward 8 Respiratory Unit at Fairfield General Hospital said: “I am so pleased for the whole team on Ward 8. They are such a wonderful team to work with and they thoroughly deserve to win this award for all the hard work they put in day in, day out. Thank you!” 

  • North Manchester - Louise McMahon, Sister, Emergency Department

Louise McMahon, Sister, Emergency Department at North Manchester General Hospital said: “Thank you so much to the people who voted for me and the team who support me on a daily basis. I am amazed to win a Staff Award, it means a lot to me.”

  • Administration/Secretarial Worker of the Year Award
  • Leading by Example Award
  • Team of the Year Award
  • Volunteer of the Year Award

There were also Saving Lives Awards and Improving Lives Awards for each Care Organisation and at a Group level.

Members of NHS staff celebrated long into the night at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group’s inaugural Staff Awards evening held on Friday 16 November, at the Sheridan Suite, Manchester, after learning they had won the public vote.

The Northern Care Alliance is one of the biggest NHS organisations in the country and brings together two Trusts, Salford Royal and Pennine Acute, which together employ over 17,000 doctors, nurses, midwives, porters, admin, clerical and other staff.

The Staff Awards celebrate and recognise the success and achievements of staff working across the Group.

Sir David Dalton, Group Chief Executive of the Northern Care Alliance, said: “This is a highlight in our organisation’s calendar; a chance to celebrate success and recognise the exceptional efforts, contribution and achievements of colleagues at all levels across our hospitals, community and social care services. This event enables us to say ‘thank you’ to individuals and teams who work across our Care Organisations and corporately across our Group.”

Around 1,200 staff and guests attended this year’s Staff Awards event from each of the Group’s four Care Organisations – Salford, Oldham, Bury & Rochdale and North Manchester. The event was fully funded by generous sponsors including, Brookson Direct, Carefoot Plc, Construction Impact Framework (CIF), Consort Healthcare (Salford) Plc, ENGIE, Genesis Automation, Hill Dickinson, NHS Professionals, Salary Finance and Vinci Construction UK.
