Work to repair large pool liner at Heywood Sports Village begins

Date published: 19 November 2018

Repairs to the large swimming pool liner at Heywood Sports Village started today (Monday 19 November).

Minor damage to the liner of the large pool was discovered during routine maintenance, requiring the pool to be closed and drained to resolve the issue.

With the pool empty and working with specialist contractors, it became apparent that there has been deterioration of the pool liner due to a latent problem from when the pool liner was first installed.

Both pools at the leisure centre closed for repairs to the ventilation system and pool lining in mid-October.

The smaller pool was able to re-open on 23 October but temporarily closed on Sunday 18 November to enable the five-day repairs to the larger pool.

The small pool will remain closed until Saturday 24 November and Link4Life staff hope that the large pool will reopen on Saturday 1 December.

A Link4Life spokesperson said: “We’ve been working hard over the last couple of weeks to find a solution for the closure of the large pool at Heywood Sports Village and were awaiting the results of a couple of investigations that had taken place recently before we provided a further update.

“We are now pleased to confirm that the large pool liner will be replaced with work commencing on Monday (19 November).   The work will take five days to complete and then the pool will need to be refilled with water.  The target date for re-opening the large pool is Saturday 1 December but we will provide confirmation of a definite date when work is underway.

“Whilst this is extremely positive news, unfortunately, we will need to temporarily close the small pool whilst the work is undertaken to the large pool. The small pool will be closed from Sunday evening (18 November) and will re-open on Saturday 24 November. We are really sorry for any inconvenience and frustration that this may cause to users of the small pool but the safety of our customers is our priority.

“We are grateful for your ongoing co-operation and thank you for your patience over the last couple of months.  We look forward to seeing you back at Heywood Sports Village very soon.”
