Liz McInnes MP takes petition to save Heywood name to Parliament
Liz McInnes, Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton, has presented to Parliament a petition signed by hundreds of local residents calling for the name of Heywood to be included in its Westminster constituency.
Under a review of parliamentary boundaries, the Boundary Commission has proposed that Heywood becomes part of a new Rochdale constituency simply called that - Rochdale.
Liz McInnes MP says: “The proposals from the Boundary Commission would mean that for the first time since 1885 our proud town name would fail to appear in the title of its parliamentary constituency. I launched this petition to save the name of Heywood and I’m pleased to say that hundreds of local residents have put their name to it, and I am proud to present it to Parliament on their behalf.
“I hope the Boundary Commission and the government will look again and ensure that our proud and historic name is kept in the title of our constituency, helping to make sure that Heywood gets the recognition it deserves.”
