Buersil and Balderstone War Memorial has undergone a facelift in time for the Great War centenary commemorations.
The Grade 2 listed memorial on Oldham Road has been cleaned, a plinth stone repaired and the names of the fallen restored.
Erected in 1928, it depicts the names of 127 local servicemen who died in World War One. A further 35 names were added of those killed in the Second World War.
And to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ending of the Great War, the Memorial is now floodlit.
Local councillor Richard Farnell, who organised the restoration and floodlighting works, said: “This is an important local landmark and the names of over 150 local men who killed shows just how devastating the two world wars were in this close-nit Community.
“On behalf of today’s residents, I will be laying a wreath as unusual in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice. They will not be forgotten.”
