Middleton Youth Band picks up two awards at BrassFestUK 2018

Date published: 05 November 2018

Middleton Youth Band picked up two awards at the very first BrassFestUK contest.

The online contest has three sections for all levels of unregistered bands: development (less than two years), Youth (under 19s) and Training (all other unregistered bands).

The brass group’s training band won the development section, for players playing for less than two years, winning a £50 Pennine Music Voucher, whilst the Youth Band came second in their section.

A special mention was also given to Middleton Youth’s soloists: the Flugel Horn for Under the Boardwalk and Euphonium for You Raise Me Up.

A representative for Middleton Youth Band said: “We are absolutely delighted that we have received the results of BrassFest, which we entered earlier this month.

“The training band won, and the youth band came second in their section for any unregistered bands. Our youth band soloists received a special mention too.

“Congratulations to the other category winners, Youth Brass 2000 and Newbridge Celynen.”

Adjudicator Alan Duguid said: “It was a real pleasure to adjudicate this contest and I applaud you for taking such a progressive and innovative approach.

“All the bands produced recordings that showed them off extremely well and this made the experience as a listener an extremely enjoyable one.”
