Large pool at Heywood Sports Village could remain closed until 2019

The large swimming pool at Heywood Sports Village could remain closed until 2019, Link4Life staff have revealed.

Minor damage to the liner of the large pool was discovered during routine maintenance, requiring the pool to be closed and drained to resolve the issue.

With the pool empty and working with specialist contractors, it became apparent that there has been deterioration of the pool liner due to a latent problem from when the pool liner was first installed.

However, repairs could mean the pool is closed until the new year.

A spokesperson said: “We appreciate the inconvenience caused over the last couple of months and know that it looks like there is not much happening at the moment as the large pool remains closed, but we can assure you that the team are working with contractors to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

“We do not currently have a date for re-opening and it is possible that repairs may continue into early 2019 but we will continue to keep customers updated with progress every week.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to customers who have used an alternative swimming pool to continue their swimming activity.

“We know that this is not convenient for all customers and are sorry to those who are unable to use an alternative – we hope that we’ll see you again in the centre soon when the issue is resolved.”

Both pools closed for repairs to the ventilation system and pool lining in mid October.

The smaller pool was able to re-open on 23 October. Swimming lessons restarted for Swim Academy pupils and Link4Life are back to normal with other small pool sessions.
