Rosso bus operator to offer train travel deal

Date published: 01 November 2018

A local bus operator is offering strike-hit rail customers a cut-price 'Train Ticket Top-up' travel deal.

For the next two Saturdays, Rosso is offering those with a valid train ticket the chance to make any journey on their buses for just £2.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union working for Northern Railway have been taking strike action on selected dates in their long-running dispute over the role of train guards – and with no end to the disruption in sight, the bus companies are stepping in to ensure people in the Red Rose County can still get from A to B.

The deal will be on offer Saturday 3 November 2018 and also Saturday 10 November 2018, to anyone with a valid train ticket for travel on those dates – and it’s available for travel on any of the company's bus routes within Lancashire, and Greater Manchester on the full route of Rosso’s 464, 481, 482 and 483 services.

On previous strike affected Saturdays, up to seven out of ten of Northern’s train services have been cancelled, with no service at all running after early evening. Many Lancashire events and attractions have been affected by the dispute, and Transdev says its offer is aimed at supporting the region’s economy as well as attracting more people to sample its buses.

Transdev CEO Alex Hornby said: “Many of those who travel regularly with us across the North have already switched to us from the train.

“We know many rail customers are frustrated by the continued disruption to their train journeys, and so we’re ready to come to the rescue with this low-cost alternative for the next two Saturdays.

“While no-one welcomes industrial action, naturally we hope people who try our buses for the first time using this offer will choose to stay on board with us.”
