Bull Brow receives stunning makeover

Date published: 01 November 2018

One of Rochdale’s hidden streets now looks even better than ever with new atmospheric lighting and greenery, thanks to Rochdale Town Centre Management.

Nestled between The Butts and Yorkshire Street, Bull Brow already exudes a Mediterranean ambience due to housing some of Rochdale’s hidden gems, such as the town’s only specialist tapas restaurant, La Mancha, and the Vicolo del Vino, a candlelit wine cellar.

The alleyway was recently treated to a makeover, and you’d be forgiven for thinking you were no longer in Kansas, as it were, as Bull Brow truly feels as though it belongs to one of the romance countries.

Paul Ambrose, Town Centre Manager, said: “Bull Brow is home to some of Rochdale’s finest venues and really is one of Rochdale’s hidden historic gems.

“We hope that by improving an already beautiful area with additional greenery and lighting, more people will be encouraged to discover Bull Brow and all it can offer.”

The origin of Bull Brow’s name suggests that the name is linked to the annual River Roch display of bull baiting, with others proffering the name’s etymology as being from the cattle brought to the town’s slaughterhouse at Bull Yard via The Butts and Bull Brow.
