Rochdale woman celebrates 101st birthday

Date published: 31 October 2018

A Rochdale woman celebrated her 101st birthday on Tuesday 30 October.

Gladys Radburn, who lives at Ashcroft in Hurstead, celebrated the big day with family and friends at  special birthday bash in the lounge.

She was even visited by Deputy Mayor Councillor Billy Sheerin and his wife and Deputy Mayoress, Lynn.

Gladys said she does not feel any different than she did when she was a few years younger and puts her secret of longevity down to keeping active and staying as independent as possible.

Gladys, who attends a weekly pottery class, has also just won a recognition award at her weekly exercise class.

Scheme manager Sally Bishop said: “We are very proud of Gladys.”

Councillor Sheerin said: “Gladys is an absolutely amazing woman. She is very warm and happy and still enjoys life. She has a wonderful supportive network around her and she remains a very active member of a lovely community.

“She is a banner of how we can be in later life, and should be a mentor to us all as an active and independent person.

“I was delighted to meet her.”
