Man dies after Castleton fire

A man in his 50s has died in hospital after a fire in Castleton on Monday morning (29 October).

Police were called by the fire service shortly before 8am on Monday 29 October to a report of a man on fire at a property on Kirklee Road, Rochdale.

A second man, aged in his 20s, escaped the property from an upstairs window. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The property suffered significant fire damage.

Police launched a joint investigation into the cause of the fire alongside Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire and a file will be passed to the coroner.
