Man in critical condition after Castleton fire

A man in his 50s is in a critical condition after a fire in Castleton on Monday morning (29 October).

Police were called by the fire service shortly before 8am this morning, Monday 29 October, to a report of a man on fire at a property on Kirklee Road.

North West Ambulance Service treated three patients and took two to hospital, a man in his 50s who remains in a critical condition, and a second man in his 20s, who has non-life-threatening injuries, who escaped from the property through an upstairs window.

The property suffered significant fire damage.

Four fire engines attended the incident from Heywood, Rochdale, Chadderton and Oldham and firefighters using six breathing apparatus and three hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

Police have launched a joint investigation into the cause of the fire alongside Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 324 of 29/10/2018, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
