Local composer's pieces to be performed at Rochdale Music Society

Date published: 29 October 2018

On Saturday 10 November, the brilliant young pianist Alexander Soares will be returning to Heywood Civic Centre to give a concert which will include three pieces by Rochdale composer Graham Marshall, who will be celebrating his 80th Birthday that very day. Alexander delighted the audience when he played for the Rochdale Music Society in April 2016, and he returns by special request with a programme that includes Bach' English Suite No. 3, Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit and Beethoven's Sonata in A flat Op.110.

Graham's pieces will begin the second half of the concert. He has called the selection, which consists of two Waltzes with a Prelude in between, "Party pieces" and he hopes they will provide a suitably enjoyable transition from the extravagantly dramatic and colourful Ravel work to the more meditative Beethoven Sonata that will follow.

Full details of the ticket prices can be found on our Events section:

Graham will himself be conducting one of his light-hearted compositions, Pizzicato obbligato, from his Suite: "Durham Days 1957-65" during the Rochdale Amateur Light Orchestra's concert on Wednesday 21 November at 8.00pm in St. Michael's Parish Church, Bamford. This concert is FREE for all who come along. It will include lively and colourful Violin and Guitar duets by rising star musicians, Oscar Tabor and Marcus Forster.
