Temporary matting won’t fix large pool problem at Heywood Sports Village Large pool

Temporary matting set to be installed at Heywood Sports Village won’t fix a problem with the large swimming pool liner.

Both pools closed for repairs to the ventilation system and pool lining earlier this month.

The smaller pool was able to re-open earlier this week.  Swimming lessons restarted for Swim Academy pupils and Link4Life are back to normal with other small pool sessions.

Minor damage to the liner of the large pool was discovered during routine maintenance, requiring the pool to be closed and drained to resolve the issue.

With the pool empty and working with specialist contractors, it became apparent that there has been deterioration of the pool liner due to a latent problem from when the pool liner was first installed.

However, a temporary solution with matting will not fix the problem.

A spokesperson for Link4Life said: “We hoped to be able to re-open the large pool next week using a temporary matting solution.  Unfortunately, after continued work with contractors carrying out extensive tests over the last week, it has been confirmed that the temporary matting solution will not fix the issue with the pool liner and therefore we are unable to proceed with this option.

“There have been further tests over the last couple of days and we are just awaiting the report to show the findings.  From this we hope that we are able to determine alternative options for re-opening the pool.

“We'd like to thank customers for your continued patience and co-operation during this time. We assure you that we are doing all that we can to find a solution to be able to re-open the large pool as quickly as possible and will keep you updated.”
