Bring a black cat into your life this National Black Cat day

Date published: 27 October 2018

Today (Saturday 27 October) is National Black Cat Day, a time to recognise the beautiful black cats in our lives and raise awareness of those still waiting for a loving home.

Now in its eighth year, Cats Protection’s National Black Cat Day, encourages more people to adopt a black or black-and-white cat.

Also known as Black Cat Awareness Day, the day celebrates our tiny house panthers and tuxedo counterparts, consistently overlooked when it comes to adoption. Last year, the dusky felines took 13% longer to rehome than moggies of other colours.

In honour of National Black Cat Day, we asked Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary to share some of their adorable cats, who are currently waiting for their new home.

Chicken

Chicken

Chicken is a two-year-old female who was found living as a stray on a scrapyard. She was picked up by a rescue that had no space for her, so they contacted Bleakholt and we took her in.

She is quite shy, assumed to be from living on the streets for a while but once she knows you will head butt and enjoy being stroked. She continues to grow in confidence every day. We hope Chicken can find a home soon where she can continue her journey.

Rosie

Rosie

Rosie is a 12-month-old female who was found living as a stray and brought into us at Bleakholt. She must have had a loving home at some point in her life as she is very friendly and sweet. Rosie isn’t very fond of the other cats, so she would probably be suited to a home where she is the only pet and can have all the attention for herself.

Nelson

Nelson

Nelson is a 10-year-old male who came to Bleakholt after his owner sadly passed away. He is a very loving and laid-back cat who is used to living with children. He is good with the other cats and dogs.

He enjoys having access to outside.

Charles

Charles

Charles is approximately 6 years old and came to Bleakholt as a stray. He has been living as a stray for a very long time, so he needs an understanding home who can help him learn to trust humans. He is FIV positive, so he needs to be a housecat, and cannot be rehomed with other cats.

Can you offer Charles the understanding home he desperately needs?

Midnight

Midnight

Midnight is 11 years old and was originally returned to Bleakholt because his owner sadly died.

He is a very loving cat who loves attention. We think he would suit a quiet home because he can be a little shy. He was rehomed recently and returned because he was unfortunately being messy in the home and not using his litter tray, his owner felt he wasn’t the right person to help him overcome this.

We are looking for someone who is willing to adopt him despite of his habits, he was always very clean at Bleakholt. He may want access to the outdoors.

Red

Here is Red. This handsome young chap is 6-months-old. He is a very friendly and confident cat who would suit most homes. Red came to Bleakholt with his friend Blue as their owner was being evicted, however they do not need to go together as they are not close.

Currently, Red is on a special diet which he may need to be on for life. We do ask for a donation towards his food. If you are interested, please speak to a member of staff.

Ethel

Ethel

Ethel is a two-year-old female cat who came to Bleakholt after being found as a stray.

She is a friendly girl and will make a wonderful companion
