The small swimming pool at Heywood Sports Village is expected to reopen tomorrow, Tuesday 23 October, say Link4Life.

Both pools closed for repairs to the ventilation system and pool lining earlier this month.

Subject to final checks, staff expect the small pool to reopen at 4pm on Tuesday.

Minor damage to the liner of the large pool was discovered during routine maintenance, requiring the pool to be closed and drained to resolve the issue.

With the pool empty and working with specialist contractors, it became apparent that there has been deterioration of the pool liner due to a latent problem from when the pool liner was first installed.

A spokesperson for Link4Life said: “We can assure you that this would not cause any problem to swimming pool users.

“We are currently working with contractors to resolve the problem with the pool liner.  The damage is more than originally anticipated, and a full replacement of the pool liner is needed.”

From the week commencing 29 October, the large pool will be re-opened on a temporary basis whilst the replacement pool liner is manufactured.

Temporary matting will be installed on the base of the pool, giving a safe solution which allows Link4Life to refill the pool and resume normal water activities.

There will be a need to close the pool again in the next couple of months whilst the replacement pool liner is installed.  Link4ife is aiming to do this in during the Christmas/New Year period when the centre is generally much quieter.

The spokesperson added: “We apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused and we'd like to say a big thank you to all customers at Heywood Sports Village for your patience over the last few weeks with the closure of the swimming pools.”
