Man charged following armed robberies in Middleton and Oldham

A man has been charged following two armed robberies and an attempted robbery where a man was imprisoned in his own home.
John Rooney (07/06/1968) of no fixed abode has been charged with:
- One attempted robbery
- Two business robberies
- Driving whilst disqualified
- Driving with no insurance
- Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
- Possession of a class A drug (heroin)
- Possession of a class B drug (cannabis)
He will appear at Stockport Magistrates Court on 16 October.
On Thursday 11 October police were called to an attempted robbery on Newbridge Lane in Stockport where a 61-year-old man had been tied up and assaulted in his own home.
At 5.20pm on Saturday 13 October police were called to an armed robbery at a Post Office on Thornham Road in Oldham and then an armed robbery at a hair salon on Oldham Road in Middleton at 6pm.
A second man, aged 38 has been released under investigation.
