A local photographer has received an unexpected award for one of his pictures.

Howard Wilkinson received the Viewbug ‘Great Shot’ award for October for a photo he took of the sun setting on a river in Zambia in September 2007.

Taken at the end of a trip taking publicity shots for a Rochdale missionary group, Howard captured the scarlet light reflecting on the ripples of the Zambezi river.

He said: “I received an email saying my photo had been selected by the editors as one of their favourite shots, and it does give you a warm and fuzzy feeling.

“It’s nice for your picture to be recognised as a good one and that other people think so too.”
