Rochdale Rotary’s Charity presentation evening at the Masonic buildings Richard Street on Thursday 4 October saw £12,500 presented to local charities following a year raising funds at a Classic Car Show in July and Cricket Dinner in August.
Over 40 members and friends saw local charity Rochdale Heartbeat’s founder Sue Ridgard and Springhill Hospice’s Community Support Fundraiser Barbara Lloyd receive cheques from Immediate Past President Councillor Ann Stott.
This follows a strong tradition of Rochdale Rotary Club, over 82 years, supporting local charities
A donation was also given to Rochdale Cricket Development Group’s Elaine Royds and chairman Gareth Browne by Rochdale Rotary past president John Holder to help aspiring young cricketers get expert coaching.
This is the seventh year the club has raised money for this group from a cricket dinner - Jim Cumbes, past CEO of Old Trafford Cricket Ground, was guest of honour and main speaker.
For their strong support of the Classic Car Show, the Rochdale Masons’ Hope Charity was also given a donation by Rotarian Councillor John Taylor.
Rotary District 1285 Assistant Governor Swati Mukherjee, who attended, commented on the impressive way the club has been able to raise funds for such worthwhile causes.
Rotary President Keith Banks said: “It’s a tribute to the energy, enthusiasm and hard work of our club that we are able to raise large amounts of money for charitable causes from our Classic Car show and other events and is in line with the Rotary motto of ‘Service above Self’.’’
