Joseph Lupton is congratulated on his Summer Reading Challenge success by Councillor Janet Emsley (l), cabinet member for libraries, and family members
A young library member is celebrating after winning the prize draw following the popular Summer Reading Challenge.
Joseph Lupton, who attends Smithy Bridge Primary School, won a £10 book voucher after successfully reading six books over the summer holidays as part of the ‘Mischief Makers’ challenge.
He was also awarded a family ticket to the Dennis the Menace and Friends icing workshop at popular local business, Browns Cakes.
Joseph was presented with the prizes by Councillor Janet Emsley at a special award ceremony at Smithy Bridge Library. Family members, including younger brother Isaac, who also completed the reading challenge, were on hand to enjoy the presentation.
Proud mum Imogen Lupton said: “The boys really enjoyed taking part in the national Summer Reading Challenge. It was great fun but also provided fantastic learning opportunities over the long summer holidays.
"Joseph was thrilled to win a book voucher, and the trip to Browns will be the icing on the cake.
"Thanks to everyone at the council for promoting such a brilliant initiative.”
Councillor Emsley, cabinet member for libraries, said: “Congratulations to Joseph and well done to the hundreds of children across the borough that successfully completed the challenge.
"It’s great that so many youngsters take the opportunity to read over the summer holiday and this challenge, along with our brilliant Fit, Feed and Read scheme, is about encouraging children to enjoy books and libraries from an early age.
"A huge thanks to staff from the library service for delivering a well organised and popular challenge.”
