St Cuthbert's RC High School

Date published: 09 October 2018

Goodbye and Good Luck Mrs Russell

Mrs Russell our school librarian said goodbye to St. Cuthbert’s on Friday.

After over twenty years of service working in the Learning Resource Centre and for the whole school.

Her passion for reading and her ability to inspire young people was outstanding.

A pioneer for the government led reading programme ‘Booked-Up’ which intended to ensure that every child received a reading book, Angela made it possible for over 2000 children to have at least one reading book at home.

The students and staff will miss her Library lessons which were engaging and formed part of the literacy focus.

In her final week we celebrated her long service with a thanksgiving Mass in our chapel including singing and music from the liturgy group, and a farewell Tea Party was organised by all of the students.

It goes without saying that Angela’s contribution to school life will be deeply missed, by her colleagues and students alike.

We wish her well in her new endeavours and hope to see her back at school when she will be invigilating the examinations later this year.

Year 7 Boys - two wins and six points

St Cuthbert's Year 7 football team

The year 7 boys played their first game of the league against strong Wardle opponents on Tuesday 25 September.

Congratulations go to the boys for a great 3-0 win.

Goal scorers were Malvin Tavares, Kayden Williams and David Kapiamba.

They then went on to win against Hollingworth at home on the 2 October.

St Cuthbert’s were outstanding from the start winning the game 3-1.

The goals the boys produced were first class at this young level.

The first a free-kick hit straight into the top of the net by Malvin Tavares.

The second was an incredible strike from 20 yards scored by Ashton Ruddy and the third after some nice two touch football finished neatly by Kayden Williams.

Amazingly man of the match went to goal keeper Sam Stafford after producing at least three saves worthy of England goal keeper, Jordan Pickford. Unfortunately, he could not keep out a well worked goal scored with only minutes remaining.

Past student is Man of the Match in Rugby Debut

Beltus Nonleh, one of our past students was the youngest player ever to be selected for a Rochdale league match. He made his first team debut aged 17 this Saturday and also achieved “man of the match”. Huge congratulations, Beltus.

Recognition given to dedicated students

Mr Shields gives dedicated students a letter praising them for the professionalism

This morning a token of appreciation was given to the students involved recently in Open Evening.

All of the students were invited to Cuisine and given a sweet treat as a reward for all of their hard work.

Mr Shields also presented everyone with a letter praising them for the professionalism they showed when representing the school.

He also said that we have had a number of letters from parents saying how impressed they were, many commenting on how kind, friendly and knowledgeable the students came across.

He went on to say that they were the face of St. Cuthbert’s on the night and how proud he was of their willingness to help. Service is one of our Core Values and by helping others, our students demonstrated how they are living out our values the “St. Cuthbert’s Way”.
