Kavana Taylor died as a result of a road traffic collision, a coroner has ruled.

Assistant Coroner Ms Robertson concluded the inquest on Wednesday (3 October).

21-year-old Kavana died in April this year when the BMW he was driving collided with a Volkswagen Polo on Manchester Road in Castleton.

A 25-year-old man, who was a passenger in the BMW, received minor injuries as did the driver of the blue Polo.

Assistant Coroner Mr Flanagan disclosed: "During the early hours of 1 April 2018, the deceased was the driver of a motor vehicle, which was involved in a road traffic accident on Manchester Road, Castleton.

"The deceased had consumed a large amount of alcohol and had used cocaine prior to his death, which more than minimally detrimentally affected his ability to control his vehicle.

"He sustained unsurvivable multiple organ injuries during the accident and fact of death was confirmed by paramedics attending the collision scene."

Speaking earlier this year, his parents described him as ‘the best loving son’ and ‘everybody’s friend’.

His mum, Claire Taylor, said: “Kavana was everybody’s friend.

“The cards, messages and support have blown me away.

“He was my soul mate and sidekick; he has left a void that will never be filled.”

Kavana’s father, Ian Taylor, also paid tribute to his son: “He was the best loving son a father could ever wish for.

“He was my best mate.

“He will be always loved and sadly missed by everybody who knew him.”
