Retired armed forces man raises more than £3,700 for MIND
Date published: 03 October 2018
A former member of the armed forces from Rochdale has raised more than £3,700 for MIND by trekking across the lava fields of Iceland.
Kevin Hughes took on the demanding 58km challenge to help raise awareness of mental health and fund their services.
He was amazed after visiting his local MIND centre, becoming inspired to help the charity continue its good work.
In total, he raised £3,765 after the four-day trek over thundering volcanos, majestic waterfalls, steaming lava fields and fjords.
Mr Hughes said: “It was a very eye-opening experience and well worth the effort and training building up to the trek.
“I met some very inspirational and highly motivated people. They have become lifelong friends in the very short amount of time we were together, each individual brought contributions to the 22-person team which have smashed 60k fund raising for MIND.
“It was amazing, and I would like to thank family and friends from Rochdale and all the businesses that supported my challenge, without them it wouldn't have been possible to be a participant.
“I have rested since my epic trip, but this weekend I have arranged the Yorkshire three peak challenge for some locals and some of the team.
“I will be taking on a new challenge in 2019, I hope to raise more vital funds for our local charities.”
