The HSJ Awards are one of the largest celebrations of healthcare excellence in the world, recognising and promoting the finest achievements in the NHS, and showcasing them to the service’s most influential leaders.

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group brings together five hospitals, 2,000 beds, specialist and acute services, a range of associated community services, and over 17,000 staff across Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Alliance is one of the largest NHS organisations in the country with an operating budget of £1.3bn, serving 1m people. The five hospitals operated by the Group are, Salford Royal, The Royal Oldham, Fairfield General in Bury, Rochdale Infirmary and North Manchester General.

Steve Taylor, chief officer at Bury & Rochdale Care Organisation said: “We are delighted to have made the shortlist in the HSJ Awards. Both teams are dedicated to saving lives and improving lives and it is fantastic to see the hard work of staff being recognised. Fingers crossed that they are announced as winners.”

The Northern Care Alliance has been shortlisted four times in three categories overall.

As well as the two shortlisted Bury & Rochdale Care Organisation categories, North Manchester General Hospital has been shortlisted in the Improvement in Emergency and Urgent Care category for the co-design and co-production of an innovative sensory space in the Children’s Emergency Department.

Salford Royal has been shortlisted in the Improving Care with Technology category for its Patient Pass Renal Referral System.

Jim Potter, chairman of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, said: “I am very proud of all of the teams that have reached the shortlist stage of this year’s HSJ Awards, I wish them well and hope each of them goes on to win an award.

“I think the fact that we have been shortlisted four times shows how well we are performing as a Group and confirms that we are a leading provider of healthcare excellence.”

The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony at the Intercontinental London hotel on 21 November. In order to be crowned ‘winner’ our shortlisted teams will now take part in presentations and interviews to judging panels of senior and influential figures from the sector.

In total 26 winners will be announced at the awards ceremony.
